Vincent Flores
Vincent Flores, a Network Specialist III at Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD), network specialist III for a district of ~40,000 students and has functioned in that role for about 4 years. He single handedly managed the district network infrastructure during the Covid shutdown. Not only does Vincent manage the network and the Google Admin for 40,000+ devices but he also managed the Zoom session board meetings for two years, live streamed the majority of our 14 graduations for the past 4 years, and manages the Zoom sessions for our evening community meetings seeking input on new principal hires,, all the while maintaining a pleasant customer service stance and working to be available for all types of meeting and planning sessions. He’s even taken on some administrative work to make sure everything gets done.
How long have you been in your current role and how did you get there?
"I graduated from Sacramento High School in 2001. After graduation that summer I immediately started working for the district as a Site Computer Tech I at Sacramento High School. I moved up to a Site Computer Tech II in 2003. In 2007 layoffs occurred and I left Sacramento Charter High School at the end of the School year. As I was looking for a job, I applied to a part-time Site-Tech position at C.K. McClatchy High School then was asked to work per-diem for the Technology Services Dept (ISET at the time). In January 2008 I was hired full time in the Technology Services department as a Site Tech I. In 2012 I took a Technology Support Specialist position and then moved into a Network Spec I role in 2013. In April 2020 I was promoted to Network III. .November 2023 will mark 22 years with Sacramento City Unified."
What's a recent win you've had at work?
"The most recent when I would say is deployment of our new Palo Alto Firewall and continuing to move to Zero Trust and improving our CyberSecurity landscape."
How long have you been a CITE member? What is your favorite memory from a CITE event?
"With the hire of our now retired CIO Bob Lyons I had the opportunity along with my colleagues to join CITE. I have been a CITE Member for approx 2 years. Able to join the CITE Conference in Sacramento and Long Beach."
What do you do in your limited free time?
"In my free time I enjoy hanging with friends and family, and travel."
If someone is intimidated or reluctant to get involved with CITE, what advice would you give them?
"To join the community to be able to be involved and learn what other entities are doing, so we can all work together to achieve the same goals."
